Tampa Florida plans Clean Beaches Week

National Clean Beaches Week this year is the week of June 29th - July 5th, 2007. Everyone's getting in on the action. The goal is to focus on our beaches and help keep them beautiful by encouraging local residents to get involved and make a difference. 

Mayor Pam Iorio has made this week  - Clean Beaches Week for the City of Tampa in Hillsborough County. Locals are invited to join the City of Tampa Parks and Recreation Department and the Mayor's Beautification Program for planned beach clean up projects.

 

 

Tampa Florida Beach Clean-Up

They will be working at the following Tampa beaches from 8:30am-10:30am on Thursday July 5th:

  • Ben T. Davis Beach located at 1701 Courtney Campbell Causeway Tampa, Florida
  • Picnic Island Beach located at 7409 Picnic Island Blvd, Tampa Florida

 Gloves, water and trash bags will be provided by the City of Tampa.

 They planned these clean-up projects to correspond with the 4th of July - when thousands come and enjoy the beaches and many leave trash behind.

The City of Tampa explains that "Clean Beaches Week in Tampa is designed to recognize the environmental and recreational value of our beaches. During this week, beachgoers are asked to

  1. leave no trace at the beach,
  2. walk one mile on the beach,
  3. enjoy one healthy seafood meal, and
  4. swim, surf, boat responsively. " 

To volunteer for the beach clean-up, please call the Mayor's Beautification Program at 813-221-8733. For more information about the programs and services available through the Tampa Parks and Recreation Department, please call 813-274-8615 or visit the City of Tampa website."
